The primary function of a truck's input shaft (first shaft of the transmission) is to transmit engine power to the transmission.
1. Power Transmission Core
It connects directly to the engine’s clutch assembly. When the clutch engages, the input shaft rotates with the engine’s crankshaft, transferring rotational power into the transmission.
2. Gear Meshing Foundation
The shaft is equipped with a constant-mesh gear that pairs with the countershaft (lay shaft) gear. This initial meshing establishes the basic power flow for subsequent gear ratio changes.
3. Torque Transfer Bridge
It converts the engine’s rotational speed and torque into a form the transmission can adjust. This enables the truck to switch between gears for different driving conditions (e.g., starting, cruising, climbing).
